Reman axle length question Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Fri, 10 Apr 2020 07:54:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Lots of post about reman axle lengths being incorrect. I spent an hour reading archived posts but have not found a specific length for the axle assemblies. Some have found reman axles to be off by a large amount (1/2") but I am finding reman axles lengths specified at 19-1/2" for one version and 19 -9/16" for a different version, same vendor (Rock Auto). Given the way the inner tripod slides along the axle shaft, I find it hard to believe 0.062" in length difference would have an impact. I've also seen where it's possible, but not certain, that automatics had different length axles than 5-spds. I can't say if that is true or not. Is there a definitive list of correct axle lengths that anyone can share for late model 9000's (MY 95-98)? For my case, they are all 96 and 97 FPT 5-spds and autos. I can say that there does not appear to be any different between DS and PS lengths, based on research and my own experience of changing a bunch of axles through the years. Wouldn't it be great if we had a table, assuming there is a different length? For my part, if I can get out of work at a decent time this weekend, I will line up all my axle shaft in the garage and measure the lengths. These would all be late model FPT 9000's. I will post the results in this thread.
