Water pump question...

I'm building my third motor. So this will be my third time with the engine out and putting a water pump on. The first time no problem did not have any water leaking around the o-rings that go into the block. Second Time around same block same water pump but it leaked around the o-ring at the block. Does anybody use any thing else to seal that other than just the o-rings. Any input would be great thanks. The engine is on an engine stand so I have complete access there's no head in the way. Just was curious as to what other people have done about the water pump leaking at that spot.
