I daily drove a '96 9000 Aero that had 217,000 miles for the last 3 years before selling and switching to an '85 900. With expectations of doing work of some measure every 3-5 weeks, I think it is doable.
There were no issues for me or my expectations whatsoever with the 9000 as a daily driver, in modern city traffic and at modern highway speeds in the Mid Atlantic of 85-90 mph (however, before I refreshed the suspension bushings and ball joints etc. it was a little unsteady at those speeds).
--I had a few hustle moments to get her fixed over weekends: for a frozen rear caliper, and a front wheel hub, but those can be any car of any vintage issues, and not majorly difficult work...and I had quite a few battles with the ACC during very hot summers here...but overall I really was never stranded or down a daily car. Biggest work I was faced with was overhauling A/C over a winter... I was able to drive the car in between weekend work...
--That 324 engine, if its sorted and good now, I think could go on and on...
--Parts, aside from right rear calipers, still seem okay-ish.... not great...but doable.
--Rough guess, I spent maximum 1,500 on it in parts and maintenance, which considering how cheaply I bought was entirely worth it for me and the experience.
In the final analysis, I miss it! It was a truly wonderful daily driver, even 25 years old. I preferred it over our more recent 9-5 and 9-3's and my older parents Volvo V90 (which though a beautiful car just didn't drive like the 9000Aero)
If you have the resources, time and forethought you can definitely daily drive it... but it will take attention to do it...
