96 Aero 5-spd most likely toast Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Wed, 20 Apr 2022 10:52:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Bada dum, dum, dum, .....another one bites the dust. :-(
My Black 96 Aero 5-spd daily driver is most likely done. I got ran into last night and it took a right rear hit in the wheel and rear quarter. This was my daily driver for about the last five years or more. 216K on the clock. Still ran great. Pretty rusty, though. I was going through a traffic circle and the entering driver didn't yield the right-of-way. Didn't get hit super hard but it did damage one of the super Aero wheels and it appear the rear axle is pretty badly bent. Top of wheel is tilted out quite bit and it looks toed out. Quarter is caved in a few inches and I pulled the wheel trim off. The Aero trim is only scuffed up and it didn't even break the rear tail light on that side. No one was injured and the other driver was ticketed for failure to yield. Bad part is she has no insurance and I don't carry collision or comp on any of my Saabs as the blue book is so low and the insurance company won't give you anything for them. I don't have any recourse beyond a mini tort suit. She told me she just got out of the hospital and hasn't worked in four months. She was going to get her insurance set up but just didn't get around to it. I am ticked that she was driving around with no insurance. I may end up getting zero from anybody for this wreck. I'm very happy that there were no injuries and it's just a car, but..... This may be the end of my 9000 saga. I will pull the wheel and see if there's anything I can do to straighten the wheel/axle out. Getting a junkyard axle is not very likely. I could part out the Green CSE to try to salvage the car but I'm not certain it's worth it given the amount of rust on the Aero. My wife is driving that one now anyhow until the parts come in for the white CSE. It blew a heater hose last week. Getting harder to find parts for these 9000's.
