Mine went at 63K second gear ginding badly. my Indy got a good price on a rebiuld, but wait that unit came apart the minute he tried to drive it. He dealt with returning that crap. he then did the job himself. it took two weeks and I think he had the trns in and out a couple of times. I have to say, the thing shifts very very smooth now. fast slow whatever, as good as any other car I have driven. It did take over two weeks to get it right but the indy did do a great job ultimately. new parts. 1st & second gear synchro's & Muffs, & new reverse gear(had a chip) & saab synthetic oil. I have talked to a number of techs and they all say the later trans would be prone to the same failure, they have not been out as long. They said the ONLY real difference is the reverse synchro. This was from some top tech in the US supposedly. at a dealer in norther VA. I think our post 93 friends will be experiencing the same trauma as time goes on. The advice I got was to be careful shifting into the non sychro reverse as this is were peoples Woes start! wops grind and a chip floats through the 123 area and we have a pre worn syncro. Have someone do it who you can go to if something fales and who you have an ongoing relationship. It is complicated for the Tech & it may be more trouble for him than it is worth to get the job done right!
