regardless of what some say here, a good gear synthetic 75W90 may prolong the life of your tranny if you drive aggressively....that is to say if the failure is more than just worn 2nd gear syncros. I made the mistake of using 10W30 fossil for 2 weeks with a (then) freshly modified 250+Hp '88. Flushed that stuff out,,,metallic tint to the oil (in just 2 weeks). Have had Amsoil series 2000 75W90 for a long time,,,nice and clean, shifting is OK ....a little notchy when cold, but I can still shift quickly.
Maybe try the SAAB synthetic, stay away from Redline 75W80. Redline 75W90 may be ok but I don't know anybody using it. Honda has a new synthetic 75W80 out now as well. A surprising # of FWD cars are using a synthetic gear lube.
This may be a guess but since the torque comes on so low in the later 9Ks, maybe that adds a bit more stress to the box when you gas it. BTW, most FWD boxed will fail eventually if you drag race a lot.
