Well, that's one of the advantages of living where we can each have our own opinion.
If a lighter viscosity doesn't give better performance, then why do at least some of the Nascar guys run 0W-30 for qualification? Granted, most (but not all, according to what I hear) of them switch to 20W-50 for the main race.
I know that you are well aware of the better protection against wear afforded by synthetic (or partial synthetic).
True, Saab doesnt' specify 0W-30, but until a year or two ago, no "major
oil company had such on the market, and it still is not commonly available on the shelves. For many years, Saab specifically recommended against synthetics--at least until they got something with their own label on it.
Harley owners seem to like oil so thick you have to have a paddle to stir it--if anyone wants to use an xW-50, they are welcome to do so. I'll continue to use 0W-30 with minimal wear, according to oil analysis.
