Low fuel pressure on CIS in 76 EMS Posted by tfherb [Email] (#250) [Profile/Gallery] (more from tfherb) on Sun, 5 Jun 2011 05:52:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The car has been setting for about 1 year since it was last started. I can only get fuel to squirt from the cold start valve and can run the engine for about 10 seconds. None of the other injectors will squirt fuel. I bought a CIS pressure tester and measured the pressure today and only measured only about 10 psi. Shouldn't the pressure be more than 40 psi?
Next, I measured the voltage the fuel pump terminals and got about 11.5V with and without the relay bypassed. Is that is a normal drop with the pump running?
I am thinking that the fuel pump intake might be clogged and if the pump turns out to be bad, Fuel Injection Corp at fuelinjectioncorp.com will rebuild the pumps (along with CIS injectors, fuel distributor and Warm Up Regulator)
I decided to remove the pump but I am having trouble getting the pump out. I banged on the tabs but was afraid of breaking the them or bending the flange. In some very old posts, there was a mention of a special tool to remove the flange. Does anyone know how to get such a tool?
Also, is the rubber gasket between the flange and the pump available?
Finally, which way does the flange turn. A very old post said to try to turn it clockwise to loosen it but that doesn't seem right. Shouldn't it be counter-clockwise? The similar flange on my diesel VWs turn counter-clockwise to loosen them up?
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.
I will post pics of the 76 EMS soon. It is a nice car with a very good body.
