Thanks Larry, yes it is a very nice car. At the risk of rubbing it in, the magicians at Scanwest here in Seattle rebuilt the engine and bored it out to almost 2l, so when I actually tune it right it has all the power I need and runs great. But the big plus is the 5-speed transmission they put in - what a difference! They totally nailed the gear ratios so there's overlap but also a perfect progression. To top it off, I've got soccer ball alloys with 155/15 tires that I run at 38psi. So the car is way up on it's tip toes and glides (coasts) like a dream. On a recent 5 hr trip I got 37.5 mpg out and 38 on the way back, though I was only going 60-65. I can cruise at 75-80 but the mileage goes to about 27. I drive it like it's made of glass to try to keep it from wearing out... Still working on this start problem, which now seems like an ignition issue. I think the next step is to start swapping out things like the coil/resistor unit and possibly a distributor - I have a very low mileage spare. I had a '71 as well, and it did the plug-fouling thing too. Hoping this one won't start doing that. I don't know what the fix might be.
