Kevin, The engine and gearbox were rebuilt by the previous owner, who was and is, a professional rebuilder of SAAB and Volvo engines and gearboxes for many years. The name of the place is Erikson Industries, Old Saybrook, CT. They are excellent. Like you said, it appears as if the conversion was done right. The fuel injection system used here is of the 1973-1974 variety. The differences between the two years are subtle. The car is nimble and runs great.
It appears to me that you know the fuel and ignition systems of these vehicles quite well. I do appreciate your help.
It's like "pulling teeth" trying to find parts for the 99, but I have managed to locate and install the following NOS components. Maybe the part numbers will be useful.
-fuel injectors, 0 280 150 014 (green code)
-fuel pressure sensor, 0 280 100 118 (8354938) fits 73-74
-fuel pressure regulator, 0 280 160 001 (8376071)
-throttle valve switch, 0 280 120 030 (8350696)
-trigger/impulse contacts in distributor 0 230 090 005 (8380396)
-auxillary air valve, 0 280 140 022 (8313710) (original # 0 280 140 012?)
-temp. sensor 1, (air) 0 280 130 006
-temp. sensor 11, (coolant) 0 280 130 014 (9108291?)
The ECU "brain" is 0 280 000 039 which is the one for the 2.0L. The one for 1.85 has no adjustment knob, and, as I understand, cannot be used.
I have surmised that the 13-15 degree BTDC setting, under 800-850 rpm with vacuum hose disconnected, might be right. What do you think?
Also, do you know at what mileage the throttle valve switch and trigger contacts in the distrubutor should be replaced? I have been unsuccessful in obtaining those specifications.
