As far as I know, the locks changed quite a bit in 73, so I can not use newer ones. Though, I may be wrong about that.
I am using high quality keys, made at a lock shop, that were made by creating a master - not by copying the worn old key.
The key is not the problem. The problem is with the lock cylinders themselves. The pins are worn, and new pins are not available. The driver side lock and the ignition key are the most worn.
The guy at the lock shop said the best they could do is file the surface inside the cylinders down, where the pins are supposed to be flush. He recommeneded against it though, saying that these locks are very complicated, containing over 50 parts (he called them "over-engineered"), and that there was a 20% chance that something might break in the process of taking them apart/reassembling them. And, since no parts are available, I would be very much out of luck, should damage occur.
