The locks on the doors of pre-'74 (possibly including '74) 99s are different from later 99s and all c900s. The door handle and lock are of a different design, the lock is in a separate pushbutton below the door handle that one pushes to open the door, like a 96 or 95. There is no mechanism within the handle itself. Therefore, I don't know how easily one could upgrade these locks. My '73 99 is equipped with these type. The earlier ignition keys and locks are also different, being single cut rather than double cut as on the later cars. I've looked at the on my '73 and it's my suspicion that you could easily replace the original cylinder with one of the later double cut ones. The one on my '73 is a little funky, so I've considering doing that. Swapping out ignition cylinders is fairly simply, I've done it before. I used to have a '76 99 EMS that would break ignition keys all of the time since it had a double cut key that was thin in one spot. So I just replaced it with a lock cylinder and thicker cut key from a 900 parts car I had. Problem solved.
