because I just happen to have pics of the process to re-build the front calipers...and the link has been down for the last few days....it finally works again.
The MOST important part of the re-build is having non-rusted pistons...especially the indirect piston where the e-brake mechanism is...rusted and pitted pistons will make the re-build a possible waste of time as they may not seal properly against the internal caliper seals.(phew, that was a mouthful)
The second most important part is having a complete kit....saabsite.com has them.....one kit does both calipers.....piston seals, e-brake mechanism seals, two different kinds of grease, piston dust boots....
As far as the rotor goes....remove the big nut...1 1/4" socket will work....rent a slide hammer from a local auto parts store that rents tools...attach it, then hammer away...because the hub has to come off with the rotor...when all off, 4 bolts hold the rotor to the hub. The next part in installing the hub and rotor is the MOST critical. The book shows that the proper way to do it is using a press to press it back on....meaning you should yank the whole assembly to do it....ie. driveshaft, spindle, balljoints, etc. I chose to hammer mine back on using a hammer and a socket that fit the outer part of the hub...this process is very slow. Once I got sufficient threads, I re-installed the washer and spindle nut....then used an impact gun to slowly drive the hub and rotor back on. The BIGGEST mistake that can be made is if it just doesn't want to cooperate with you...or you get mad at it....and you destroy the wheel bearing....or strip the spindle threads(I had to mention it).
Best suggestion is to remove the whole assembly....and use a press...or have a machine shop replace it.
I just replaced both front wheel bearings on my 75....and I didn't use a press....one hub spins great, the other one feels notchy...so I may have screwed a wheel bearing up, but I won't know until I re-install sometime by springtime. I just won a new bearing off ebay for $24....saabsite.com has them for $65....plus they said there are 100 or less left in the country.
I hope this helps...(hehe...it will probably scare you into not doing it)
