Well even better, it looks like we can use both the sensor AND the shutter wheel that shipped with the XR700, simply eliminating the box. The standalone sensor has different wire colors than the one we have, but it most likely is the same sensor. I'm sure crane tech support could verify.
We're using a crane coil, but I forget which one. We thought about mounting the boxes in the stock location like you did, but we ended up mounting them on the left side of the engine instead to keep everything away from the exhaust system. We wanted to keep the MSD as cool as possible. Wires run in the stock loom along the firewall. Having two large shiny boxes prominently placed doesn't exactly keep the stock look, but it doesn't look too bad.
We should be getting the tach adapter tomorrow so then we'll know more about the performance improvement. It should be substantial ;)
