Hello,
I'm new to this forum but I'm hoping someone can help me. I had the clutch done at the main Saab dealer last week (no independant specialist in my area). The car is a 1973 99 2.0L manual
When I picked up the car it was fine. But after about 100 miles a severe vibration started as I was pulling away from traffic lights in first gear. At first I suspected a wheel bearing but the vibration is still there when the car is standing at idle. The vibration is a low rumbling which you can feel through the bulkhead.
I've taken it back to Saab once and they just fobbed me off really. First they thought that the starter was permanently engaging. I didn't believe this anyway, but they disconnected it and bump started the car but the vibration continued.
Now they think my engine mounting is gone. referring to the mounting which goes from the gearbox to the body, and has a separate piece going from the body to the cylinder head - effectively forming a triangle. The cylinder head to body piece is missing on my car and has been for some time......BUT the other piece and the rubber mounting are fine. the missing piece only causes the top of the engine to shake a little really. This theory also doesn't explain why the vibration just started suddenly - as if something had broken.
Personally I suspect that a bearing within the clutch or driveshaft assembly is faulty (driveshaft oil seal was also replaced) which is causing the vibration. It's hard to explain but it's kind of a rotational vibration as if something is out of balance in the engine. The engine otherwise starts and runs fine and power delivery and clutch operation are as normal.....
If anyone can help with any suggestions I would be most grateful....
many thanks
Tom
