brackets Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Fri, 18 Apr 2003 11:00:44 In Reply to: Re: Severe vibration since clutch done - 73 99L, Tom_99L, Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:15:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The later brackets are definatley stronger than the early ones, especially the one that goes from the mount to the head. The early one just used one? bolt to the head and the later style uses 3 bolts to the head and 2 to the mating horizontal mount, plus it also uses the motor mount nut/stud as a third connection. If I'm not mistaken, the three threaded holes should still be on your head. You should look at it just to make sure they are there. As far as the lower bracket, it uses one bolt from the tranny/engine connection and one bolt from the rear timing cover. Make sure you use longer bolts than the ones that are currently used for those two holes, to make up for the thickness of the bracket. The early lower brackets were actually bolted to the side of the tranny case. It's amazing yours hasn't busted loose from the case yet, considering it's holding ALL of the weight on that side.
