I got my 34ICH from a local foreign car mechanic, who had found it on a back shelf in his parts room and offered to sell it to me when I brought my car in for some clutch work. He said he had ordered it several years ago for a customer who had never picked it up, and that it had been sold in a kit specifically for the Saab V4 engine. The kit included the carb, appropriate jets, adjustable link rod, and a custom throttle arm (marked as being made by Borg-Warner Australia!?!) to couple it to the Saab throttle linkage.

Anyway, this carb, despite being packaged for Saab, also had the metal ring. I don't know what Weber put it on there for, unless it's to adapt to some other kind of car or aftermarket air filter housing. Or maybe the Solex carb used on older V4s had a larger top, and this ring is to match up with the air filter for those...?

One thing the ring is good for now is a pattern. Trace around the inside of the ring and you've got the exact outside diameter of the carb's "air horn." Handy if you're looking for O-rings to seal against the air cleaner, or if you want to fabricate your own air box and need to snip a close-fitting hole in the baseplate.
