I've just spent the past two days in the hot Kansas sun wrestling with the
above mentioned water pipes, trying to fix a leak that developed in them after I fixed a leak in the radiator. About two years ago, I put new hoses
on all the pipes while I had the engine out and it was easy to get to and
it worked fine up until now. But getting at all those OEM hose clamps and
mashing all the pipe ends together in the engine bay was something else for
an old arthritic ridden fool. The main culprit was the 1" pipe that forms a
kind of inverted "Y" at the back of the engine and loops down and around to the front of the engine just above the water pump. The front end of
that pipe is artistically bent outward toward the passenger side of the car
about 30 degrees, thereby making it difficult to connect a straight hose from it to the pipe from the radiator (?) (I get lost just trying to remember the configuration!) Once it is hooked up it is also almost impossible to run a hose from the smaller tube that goes straight up from the water pumpt to one of the tubes hooking to the ford carb choke.
Why is this pipe bent out that way? Am I trying to hook it to the wrong place? There is only one 1" outlet in that vicinity. I have a spare pipe i
am thinking of taking to a muffler place and have them bend it straight,
it should be a lot easier to hook up. After I got it all holding water I
jumped in and fired her up and the Clutch slave had gone out! Any one want
a bad sounding, hot running '70 96?
