No modification is necessary to upgrade exhaust. This will simply reduce backpressure. All you risk is economy. Since all engines work as a pump of sorts... gas in, gas out. If you make either of those processes easier for the engine your performance will increase.
Even if you left the stocker front muffler on the car, then tacked on larger rear pipe with little to no muffling you reduce backpressure greatly.
A lot of sport exhaust systems for the strokers involve 2" pipe out of the front muffler or dual pipes. The front muffler is the most important part for performance, while the manifold really is designed for economy. When the right amount of backpressure is applied to the manifold the scavenging system works very well. Reduce that backpressure, and the scavenging goes out of wack which means more lost fuel.
If you look at Stefan Vapaa's Quantum Racer... and all other Quantum IVs you'll note a neat 'double cone' design expansion chamber. This is the best style exahust for the two-strokes. I'm not positive how these are tuned and what have you. BUT, I do know they are LOUD and very cool. If you're going to watch Stefan Vapaa, or any other Quantum IV racers take ear plugs!
