I love my V-4 powered 96 and Sonett. But, as far as a regular commuter, you will find a SAAB 900 safer, more fuel efficient, more comfortable, and probably cheaper in the long run. Alot of people claim to get 28-30 mpg from the V-4 engine, but in my 25 years of driving them I think an average would be more like 22-25 mpg. I now drive very high mileage 900 now that I consistently get 28-30 mpg, with more power, better safety features, and parts availability that is alomost as good as a mid-1960's Dodge Valiant. Also, many good to great 900's are out there to be had for $1000-$2000. So, are you insane? I don't think so, but I do think you and your wife might just be bonafide Saabnuts. Not that that is a bad quality!
