Instead of replacing the copper line, maybe you can just check to see if it is clogged. You should be able to disconnect it at both ends and blow through it with an air hose. When you say the sender plug, do you mean the plumbing fitting in the block? If so, you could remove and blow it out too.
You could also sit in the car with a can, disconnect the line from the gauge, aim it into the can, and start the car. If you get oil all over you and the car, I will just claim that you must have done it wrong, so don’t bother trying to blame me:-)
Also, I don’t think you mentioned changing the oil and filter. Did I miss seeing that, or did you miss doing it? Your oil could be contaminated with gasoline or something.
