Well if I had the car in front of me I could find it in way less time than it takes to talk about it........ please describe how the power wire, the one that has 12V until you connect it to the distributor, connects--they may not all be the same and mine is modified from original, so I'm not sure of your setup. It may be the type that connects to one of two wires coming out of the condenser, and the other ducks inside the condenser, is it that or what?
Connect up as before, so that you can readily connect/disconnect that wire. Observe voltage, key on and wire connected. Presumably it is near zero as before, right? Remove condenser from distributor body, leaving all wires connected. Does voltage return? If so, condenser is shorted. If not, something else is shorted, and there isn't much else than the point set and the wiring thereto. Reinstall condenser and remove point set (its contacts have remained separated, right?). Does voltage return?
You may see some small sparks and possibly get a mild shock during some of this, but nothing lethal. Nitrile or latex gloves will insulate you.
