I have loosened the lower ball joint from the control arm and slid it outward as far as the through bolt clearances would allow. I then used a construction level held vertically to restore camber by removing shims from behind the upper control arm. The effect has moved the hub, therefore the axle as well, slightly outward to get the axle's "T" head bearing shells out of their rut and onto fresh surface.
Still would appreciate any guidance on a longer term, more permanent resolution.
