Any comments, thoughts suggestions or leads would be appreciated.
I have a '93 900T conv. with 170k miles. I am the 2nd owner. The car needed a new transmission (manual) and at the same time got side-swiped. I brought it to an indie shop that does both body work and mechanical. The shop is getting over $3k (from the insurance co) for the body work. They also convinced me to replace the tranny (I knew it was shot, but I was considering just getting rid of the car).
The mechanical is now done and have an invoice but no rate or hrs listed for labor. Total parts - $2244, total labor $1015. In addition to the tranny (used - $1290 for part), they replaced: air filter, fuel filter, distr. cap, ingition wire set, spark plug, distr rotor, oil filter, oil, front/rear brake pad set, drive belt, front/rear crankshaft seal, oil pump seal, pilot bearing, pressure plate, clutch disc. Verbally, they told me they rebuilt the whole engine and all seals.
I didn't ask for/authorize all of the extra work, but I don't doubt that the car needed it. Is this a good deal and I should consider myself lucky, or should I insist on an itemized list of hours, or addt info? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
