All the other modern Saabs use a constant pressure compressor, and I would guess the NG 9-5 uses it also. It's a variable stroke piston compressor with a mechanical feedback to ensure that refrigerant pressures remain constant. The proper way to recharge is to evacuate the system and insert the specified weight of refrigerant.
Another way is if you *know* there's a slow leak, you add charge until you get cold air, mindful that too little refrigerant is far better than too much. I don't recommend it (but have done it). But measuring pressure levels won't get you anywhere with a variable stroke compressor.
