1) It's just another form of navigation assistance. Personally I think Nav systems are neat and better than onstar, but they are an expensive option...usually around $2000...while the onstar is standard and nav systems can be distracting. Yes you pay for the onstar service, but you get more than just navigation assistance for the money.
2) Sure you can use a cell phone to call 911, provided that a) you are concious, b) you have an arm/hand/finger to dial with.
3) You are right SAAB's are hard to steal, but it can happen.
I think onstar is a neat option. I'm not sure why GM didn't take the ever popular nav system route, but I bet you money, you'll have the nav system,onstar,internet in most GM cars by 2005. Cadillac may be the first to have the internet in the car. That way I can post to saabnet.com witout even pulling over or slowing down :-).
