Having people with the ability to track you IS kind of scary. Picture this: you are driving your on-star equipped car past some houses, just looking at scenery, or maybe you are looking to buy a house and want to see whats out there. At any rate you have no real reason for being there. At relitivly the same time as you are there, some child gets abducted. You being a white male, will fit the profile of a pedaphile, and you had no reason to be in the area, so the police pick you up as the prime suspect in a child abduction/murder. Your name hits the front page, you lose your job, your wife leaves you, and you lose your right to see your children. Eventually you are let go because there is no evidence (since you really didnt do it). Does that bring back your credibility? Or are you forever stigmatized as the child rapist that got away? If you think the government having the ability to track you is NOT scary, you ought to think again.
That being said I wouldnt mind having on-star myself, I just wanted to play devil's advocate:)
