Chris, here are some numbers you may not like. According to FARS, 36 people died in 1998, 1999, and 2000 model BMWS in the US in 98 and 99. Only 2 people died in 98, 99 and 00 Saabs in 98 and 99. There were 70,000 Saabs sold in the US during those two years. I don't know how many BMWs were sold in the US for those two years, but I am certain there weren't 18 times as many. It is time to start seriously questioning how good one or two crash tests are as a predictor of real world safety. As the editoes of Australian NCAP point out the best predictor of safety is the car's real life history and crash tests are second.
