You can add an exteral boost controller, but you ave to watch for the +15 PSI fuel cut, which resets instantly and harmlessly. There are no AF mixture issues, you don't even need a boost guage. But full boost in 1st gear with an autobox is unexplored territory. There are Abbott ECUs for autoboxes, so if you did not exceed Abbott's 1st gear boost, that is know safe operation. Anyways, tanry stress is traction limited. You will get very fast spool up. You can go pneumatic ball and spring or electronic.
You can upgrade the bypass valve. You can also fix a blow off valve is you want, as the engine does not use an air mass sensor. Forge and TurboXS 1:(25mm) bypass valves work fine.
The modified ECU's will definately provide lots more power than an external controller. It is all a matter of costs and expectations.
Your stock tires may not provide enough traction. Added HP may uncover well know weaknesses in the suspection.
I will be very interesting is reading about your mods.
If your mom is still going to drive this Saab, the external boost controller may be too much in 1st gear. The modified ECU's remain civilized. Perhaps a nice cheap bleeder valve would provide the turbo lag that she might require?
