I drive a 99 9-3 base with a 5 speed on a daily basis. While I was on vacation I got to drive an S2000 for a couple of days and put maybe 150 miles on the car. The first thing I noticed was that it was more cramped than I had expected. Not uncomfortable though. The shift throws were very short and the clutch was a lot heavier than my Saab.
The acceleration was not all that I had expected, but 62 mph came at the top of 2nd gear and at that point the car sounded more like a sportbike than a car. The power was a lot like a Saab in some ways just more spaced out, very little power right off the idle (very easy to stall), then at around 4000 things start to pick up and at 6500+ its just crazy. Oh yeah, it had the greatest exhaust note at idle and under power as well.
The car stayed very well planted, no drift to either side, very responsive. It was one of the best I have driven as far as handling and braking. The tight space kept your butt in on place.
The sound system sucked, but we had the top down the whole time.
I kept thinking the whole time that I could really get into a car like this. I then immediately thought about the 9-3 Sonnett that Automobile magazine wrote about. If it can do everything the Honda S2000 does with more torque and AWD, I don't see how Saab could lose. If you can't wait though, I would look into an S2000, its a hell of a fun ride.
