Ya..saw this rundown on the press. I think it's bang-on.

As to Forbes' response (I'll paste it if you want) I have this to say:

Although he was right to slam JD Power (we Saabers know JD Power is a ruse but we'll take good ratings with the next marque. People seem to think it's valuable), he was WRONG to lump the German automotive institute where I got my data on the poor quality of today's Volvo autos in with JD Power. Volvos Forbes pushes on their readers as better value.

To a degree, this is my fault as I (a) did not name the German agency or (b) provide a URL (from Ananova) where I found out the Volvo factory had to release a statement of admission in reply to the German agency's findings: to wit that the Volvo line is the 4th worst line in all of Europe.

He admitted that his purchase price of Viggens vs 330s was a tad misleading but then went on to say this is because the Viggen isn't selling in the US. For this, in turn, we can say it is because of unfair articles like his. These business writers want the stock way up before you purchase it. In this way, they keep people away from true purchase value.

We know our engines last longer than Toyotas and, for that matter, Volvos.

He is fond of Consumer Reports. Our take on Consumers here has been (I think) that most of us are so inclined to want the Saabs we buy to be good, we report more failures than most other car owers and can thereby urge the data into meticulous reporting. Clearly from Lex Auto Leasing data from the UK and other sources shows our cars have become way better from 1998 on.

He offers hope. He says the new 9-3 will need to be better. We all know it will be from the advance reports and hints from Trollhatten. Still, I love my Saab and it's been trouble-free, as have most. And that is by the numbers. Not anecdotal.

Note he doesn't say a thing about vehicle safety; something consumers want in a big way; bigger than ever before. So his article's way off-market there.
