is my honest opinion of a flood car. Apart from the electrics, stinks can be covered up temporarily by the right cleaning fluids, but slowly reappear over time, and never go away again... water gets into places it was never meant to be... and when you go to sell the car you may have difficulty in giving it away... is it at a SAAB dealer? it will almost certainly have lost it's SAAB warranty if it became a flood car. And $16,900 is, to me, just a very good price for a 1999 9-3 base model in good condition - and waay too much for a flood car. Insurance companies don't give money away, so if they gave the previous owner a new car, I would think this one got pretty damp... the 9-3 is a significantly better car than the 900 in many ways, if you don't have trouble getting your deposit back, (or if it is small enough to lose) you may be better off looking for a 9-3. There are plenty of them coming off lease, so you should have lots to choose from. Also, if you are new to SAABs, you may not know there are great leases and incentives on new 2001 9-3 base models: they can be bought for under $23k, much less than the sticker price. The 9-3 is a significantly better car than the 900, but as with any SAAB the most important thing is, how well was it maintained? There are enough great ones out there to not have to buy a dog.
