When I can't wash my car at home, I use a coin-op like you do. I start by using the wheel/tire cleaner, then the pre-wash soak, then the high-pressure soap on the body and the undercarriage. I NEVER EVER use the broom they have to wash my car. I would literally take it through one of the brush automatic washes first. Try touching it. After the high pressure soap I wash down the whole car (starting at the top) with a soft car wash mitt, rinsing it often with fresh water. I use a separate brush for the wheels and tires. Then I start up the high pressure soap again and give the car a once over with soap before rinsing the whole thing down with the high pressure rinse. I usually use about $10, but the car gets cleaned thoroughly. I use a drying towel, called 'The Absorber' it's a sythetic chamois, and it does a great job of drying without leaving any water spots or streaks. It is also a very good idea to once in a while clean under the rubber seals at windows/doors with a Q-tip. I know that is very anal, but it keeps dirt from accumulating around the windows. If there is enough dirt there it will run out when it rains and down that black paintwork. It will also eventually lead to annoying scratching sounds when you open/close the windows, and even finally scratch the glass. I don't use the 'shine' step, even if I'm not planning to wax the car after that wash. (There was a post on one of the BBs here (maybe General Info) a couple of days ago, and most people don't seem to use it. I still haven't found a wax that I really like, but people will swear there are products in existence that will last longer than the first days rain, which is about as long as the ones I can fnd seem to last. I welcome any suggestions! Of course, as Dave said, in six months you will probably get like the rest of us, and not even notice if your car is clean or not!
