One poster suggested taking the car out on the road to move water from the predictable trapping places out where you can get to it.
These places include:
(a) below the tail-lights
(b) the license plate frame area
(c) below the spoiler
(d) the moulding below the door post
(e) under the mirrors and
(f) the rubber strip below the grille and the light-wiper area
Another way of flushing the trapped water is with a can of compressed air. Same stuff you use for your PC keyboard.
And remember the antenna. This self-lubricated part needs to be run up (and down x2), then cleaned with an old sock sprayed with WD-40 or equivalent once a week or more often, depending on your area's dust factor.
Porsche people swear by Bon Ami as the ONLY window cleaner worth the effort. I used it as a teenager on my Dad's cars and my own. I had forgotten just how superior this product is to almost any window cleaner you can think of except perhaps the GM product. (On the interior glass, apply by spraying the product on the paper towell or cotton applicator, not necessarily on the glass.)
In winter, on exterior windows, instead of wasting window cleaner, I use a vinegar/water spray and old newspapers. I also use RainX or equivalent.
Using straight strokes throughout your cleaning and drying process cannot be emphasized enough. This is some of your best defence against the dreaded swirl; that and making sure none of your fabric assists contains grit. If you drop something on the ground while you're doing this job, best get another item or rinse verrrrry thoroughly if it's the mitt or sponge.
