I guessed it might be that. Castrol advertising was very effective. In fact, they use very much the same ingredients as their competitors as far as dino oils are concerned. There is not much room for differences if you are to conform to the SAE standards for oil performance. Even (say) KMart brand can't be much different from Mobil & Castrol & others to meet the same SAE standard. In synthetics, there are more differences as there are different processes to produce the synthetic oil and some differences in additives. Again, they have to meet the same SAE standards. Generally, I think you'll get better performance and protection with the premium synthetics. One point to watch - some oils are a mix of synthetic and dino - Castrtol was one of those but I believe they stopped doing it after being caught out on false advertising.
