I hear you about the shining properties of a leather chamois. But I also find, compared to the synthetic dry cloth, that chamois are far streakier.
I can never seem to make them clean. They leave streaks of dirt. Must be something in my technique. And believe me, every tiny imperfection shows on a black car.
Then I read that leather chamois tend to become embedded with grits, When you move them across the surface of the painted metal they leave tiny, grainy scratches. I can't take that chance on a black car (The previous ones were white and grey).
I have afterspray too, which the manufacturer says is intended to work perfectly with his high carnuba wax. It does; no question. And it's easy to apply. The only trouble with the afterspray is that if you want an absolutely perfect wash/shine job every time, you can go trough a ton of the stuff so I use it sparingly when e.g. fingerprints and bugs didn't come off in the wash.
