It's not too hard, but you'll have to tear apart the old shift knob and replace it with a new aftermarket one. First pry off the top plastic piece on the knob and then take a sharp blade and cut down the outer shift knob layer until you can peel it off. Then you'll see the white hard plastic core of the shift knob which is connected to the reverse lift feature by 3 platic prongs. Just slide in 3 small screwdrivers into the 3 slots where the prongs are and then the black plastic reverse piece and the shift knob boot will release from the knob and slide down to expose the metal shifter rod. Then just cut the rod below the white plastic knob with a saw because you won't need it anymore, and make sure you cut it to the height you want and you'll almost be done. The last thing to do is to buy a strong metal rod not that long in length that'll slide perfectly inside your shift rod and get some real strong metal apoxy and attach it inside the stock shift rod, but leave some of the new rod exposed over the stock rod because you'll need to attach your new shift knob to it. I needed to do this step because the saab shifter rod was too thick so I couldn't fit my momo knob over the rod. The shifts are now short and crisp compared to the stck form. The only problem that you might have is that you'll have a hard time at first finding fifth gear, but you'll get used to it in no time at all. Hope this helps.
