The following are actual letters from actual Audi owners reguarding whether to purchase an A4...

----------
Truly honest is a no-no. Driving experience, feeling and looks is outstanding. But, reliability is less than average. Unfortunately I can't it change due to the refinance balance..

I purchased an A4 1.8T in 1997, just months after it was introduced in the american market. The car have many bugs (turbo was changed 5 times). Warranty here is a mega plus, remember AUDI people are re-opening market here againg, as in US, due to the self-acceleration bad worth of mouth and sales plummeted.

If you earn big bucks, have a nice disposable income you will have plenty of fun. But if you live on budget, extra surprises make you run in red, back to square one, it is a no-no.

----------

I purchased the car with around 48000m on it. I decided to get an extended warranty through the dealer that would cover the car for 100,000m. I am glad that I did. around 52000m the audi warranty had expired and I had a head gasket leak. The repair was over $4,000 dollars. It was covered by the extended warranty so I did not have to pay that amount. I would have had a heart attack if I did not have the warranty. Several other minor issues occurred later. Sqeaking noises the dealer could never find. Engine noise that was never discovered by the dealer.

A friend of my had horrible luck w/ an A4 as well, finally selling the car.

I sold the car while it was still under the extended warranty, I wouldn't want to rip off soemone else, so at least they are covered as well. I am purchasing an Acura RSX Type S. Not as flashy, although faster, but the reliability will be a great relief.
