I am one of the ones who likes the new body (provided it will bloom into a coup and convertible) but I don't agree that Saab is doing poorly. According to their own numbers since the 9-3 and 9-5 introductions they have been setting sales records, at least in the US. That's not to say they shouldn't inject some freshness in the lineup - it needs it for the long run. But....
What I don't care for is Saabs (new) desire to produce loads and loads of cars. When I bought my '01 9-3 Cabrio I got a coffee table book in the mail from Saab - a nice history and so forth. One section described Saab as never wanting to be a car company that makes lots of just "good" cars, but a wanting to be a smaller volume producer of great cars. Now that phylosophy sounds like it has died, or at least been spun to suit the General.
Go ahead Saab take on BMW, perhaps Volvo but leave the likes of Ford, Honda, Nissan and VW alone. I don't want to see a Saab at every stoplight.
