I seriously don't understand the issue that some people seem to have with the interior plastics in the new 9-3.
Yes, it's different than the current Saabs, but if anything they've swung towards the Audi/BMW schools of design with smaller, softer, squarer buttons. I think anyone coming from a German car will feel right at home.
All I care about is the design and durability of said buttons... The layout seems to be ergonomically correct so that's not a problem. Yes, there are a LOT more (tiny) buttons on the dash, but this car has a lot more features than the outgoing model.
Hasn't anyone noticed and complained about all the big empty "blank" buttons in the current Saabs? THAT pissed me off in a big way when I first bought one...
Plus, what about the poor quality of the current Saab manual climate controls (which carries over to the headlight switch). If you want to test quality, go out to your NG900/9-3 and turn the headlight switch until you hear it "snap". Trust me, you won't have to force it. A LOT of them break very easily. Thankfully, the headlight switch in the new 9-3 seems to be a lot better (just like it is on the 9-5).
I think we'll have to wait to see the durability of the interior controls... but I don't expect they'll be any worse than the current Saabs.
