Hi J,
I have been mired in the swamps of the academy - end of semester, three grant applications, trips to WashDC, etc. - but it is nice to once again check in with the Saabistas!
The Potenza's are probably super tires - but I have had such good luck with the Dunlop SP8000/8080/9000/9090 series that I am chicken-to-change (5 sets so far on cars ranging from Preludes/3-series BMW's/Audi tt's/Aero's). The 8080/9090 are German made with high silica content and are really good in the rain. I should get out of my Dunlop rut and try something else! However, the Tire Rack alwas has some variety of the SP series hanging around for such a good price - I get lured back... plus the rim flange protector helps to have "safe-curb" when parking and thus reduces curb rash. Also, being old fashioned and sort of dorkey (its required to be a scientist - I have to park my cars on the opposite side of campus - lest I be discovered as a gear-head) - the notion of a tire called a "Potenza" suggests a sort of Viagra -type product that might require significant rim-flange protection (oh jeez, the halucinations are coming back - just a second..)
How about you - have you tried the Potenza's?? Just think, in the spring we could ask a benign question about tire selection - and rekindle a firestorm of controversy - such fun should be ignited in early spring....
Best wishes to all,
eric
