I posted last week of a problem with tire cupping on my 2002 9-3 SE. Many of you wrote replies offering suggestions of what to do since this is a lease car with 18 months remaining on the term.
I thought I'd let you know the update:
Firstly--I got a flat tire the dat after most all of you had replied--which accelerated solving this problem. The tire showed an INNER-sidewall puncture. Non repairable. Great, huh? I had it "patched" with no promises of duration--until I got my tires from the Tire Rack.
Got 2 tires, Pirelli P6000s (to match the Pirellis on the car). Not my choice for performance, but as they were only 75 bucks each...
The run out on the other tire being replaced was obscene--thanks Dean!
Had them successfully mounted and balanced on the rims--and installed on the rear axle.
Then, with all the rotations etc, I noticed the steering seemed "different"--so yesterday I had the front end aligned --and found the toe-in was WAY OFF on the RF. Adjusted it back to 1mm toe-in.
Thrust angle was very close to perfect.
WOW !! Tramling just about gone!!
I'll get 2 more of these tires in the next 30 days....
Now, even though these are not the "super extra max performance" type tires---it's just amazing to me how fast the original feel of the car returned. Or is it more concerning that we "live-with" a condition that deteriorates on a daily basis that is not so easily noticed. Hmmm?
Thanks to all for input--I hope this helps you with similar questions as well.
