So I just bought a '99 9-3, and I LOVE it. The only problem is that I'm addicted to my MP3 player (not an i-pod, but similar), and the car came with no cassette deck. I'm exploring many options.
1) I was going to buy one of those FM transmitter thing-ys, but I've since learned that in a crowded radio market such as Los Angeles', they just don't work very well. Is there a brand that's better than the rest? AnyAngelenos or crowded city types have any luck with one of 'em?
2) I was told about an FM modulator being attached directly to the antenna housing, but have read conflicting reports on this board as the quality of the sound. If I go this route, who would I go to to install it and how much should I expect to pay?
3) Next someone asked me about output jacks on the original unit itself -- maybe I could just run some kind of RCA to mini cord and be done with it... not quite sure how the patch would work though, or what channel/output selection the MP3 player owuld be palying through. Again, don't know how to get to the back of the unit, or who I would hire to do that, or how much to pay.
4) I was also thinking I could try to find a cassette unit that was built for the 9-3 ( I saw that post for the Utica NY place), and then get a CD changer put in the trunk, but I have no idea how difficult that might be to do & how expensive to make the change.
Any informtion or opinions about the above would be really appreciated.
Thanks, Amanda
