Thoughts on Relative Performance/Value Equation

Anybody here ever consider a C230 Kompressor Rwd 4dr Sport Sedan (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M)? Interested to know about test drive or ownership thoughts compared to a SAAB 9-3 SS Vector. I like the new C-Class look but find it hard to get over the ostentation and conspicous consumption associated with the MB brand especially in a corporate culture where folks might get the wrong idea about a guy based upon the car he drives. Thrifty New Englanders just don't flaunt wealth as it is considered impolite. Instead folks drive around in ten year old Volvos or SAABs until the floor boards rot out under your feet.
I have been a loyal SAAB man for a while but feel that GM has "commercialized" product to such an extent that it is no longer the clear choice for a "non-conformist".
