Its a nice package, if no one else sold a sports sedan.
As mentioned, they all have options packages, which push the prices way up. The 1.8 S/C motor sounds like a tractor, although it is the most reliable part of the car. The SS has a far more advanced chassis; its performance really stands out.
A very good friend is a MB service advisor: while some SS owners have had their share of issues, they are NOTHING like what C class owners go through (brake controllers, bad a/c condensors - which requires the removal of the entire dash, etc).
The SS, for the money, is one of the best packages around.
