It is not good to run the tank down to the red light or the DTE in the 50's or below. The fuel pump is lubed by the gas, the DTE is only an average and is not reliable, it has a plus or minu 10% error ( 40 miles if you get 400 miles to a tank). Also, the less gas in the tank means the more air in the tank, this means a greater chance of condensation in the tank when temp change increasing the amount of water vapor and eventually water in the gas. I fill at a 1/2 routinely unless on long trips then allow the fuel to run to 1/4.
