It's the SO-3's

The S)-3 is a fun tire under certain conditions, but it is known to tramline horribly on uneven roads. I had a set of these tire on my old Jetta GLI 16V which turned a very neutral and well behaved car into a vehicle that frightened my wife and even caught me off guard a few times. When the tires wore out (in 20K miles) I replace them with a set of Dunlop SP8000's and all the negative issues disappeared - the car was a pleasure to drive again.
In my case, the SO-3 was just too compromise laden - it was a really fun tire on a great road, excellent in the rain but it was noisy, stiff riding, and the tramlining was violent at times - just too much performance oriented misbehavior for a daily driver.
Even with lower ultimate limits of the Dunlop, I am much, much happier with the Dunlops than I was with the SO-3's; as someone on the TireRack feedback section said, "the SO-3 is just too high-tech for my low-tech chassis".
I won't even consider these tires for my '03 Vector when the time comes (soon).
