all depends on what you want out of the drive, I have found these to be a little on the low side, fine for around town or if you just cruise around, I used to drive that way always shifting at 3000 or less, I found though the car at times is to sluggish if you get caught in a shift and get behind something slow or need to avoid something, or are in the midst of passing a car, I bumped up my shift rpms in 3rd and 4th and the car is much nicer to drive. although you sacrifice a little gas mileage, also don't worry about the engine though these are very well built engines and if you are using good synthetic oil you should,n't have any problems with it at higher rpms
