OK, here's my dilemma....
I love my iPod but I hate the FM transmitter I have for it. Ever since I bought my 9-3 last fall, I can't seem to get the iPod to play correctly in the car without a high-pitched whine.
I have a standard factory CD player in my 9-3. I have no desire (nor electrical skill) to follow the online schematic to hard-wire my iPod into my stereo.
These are the options I've come up with:
1. (My idea) Find a used Saab cassette unit or cassette and CD unit so that I could go back to using my cassette adapter with the iPod. The good: The sound will be oodles better than what I have now. The bad: Wires, wires, wires, but I've lived with it before. Cost: $50-$100 for unit off classifieds or eBay and then whatever voodoo the dealer has to do to marry and divorce the current system?!?
2. (Boyfriend's idea) Find a new stereo that incorporates XM Satellite radio (Andy, I know you'll never read this but just in case, I'll never forgive you for introducing me to Opie and Anthony) as well as an auxilliary in port to hardwire the iPod directly to the system. The good: O&A back in my life. The bad: Call me a girl, and you'd be right, but I want something that's going to look nice in the space in my dash and not mess with the overall sexiness of my beloved car. Cost: $300-ish for stereo and whatever installation costs, if any, at local store.
So, anyone got any other ideas? I've been dealing with this sub-cool situation for about four months now and would like to go back to loving my iPod and my car at the same time.
