Desperate for SAAB buying advice!!!

Hi there. I am in the market for an inexpensive used saab. I found a 95 600SE that is perfect: 75k miles, manual (i prefer), 1 owner, pretty good condition, but has some engine problems. I brought it to PJs in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to be inspected and found out the valve covers are leaking, the timing belt needs replacing and needs a wheel alignment. They were also saying it doesn't look like the 60k major tune-up had been done on it (the O2 sensors were not new)... that being said, the dealer will sell it to me for a low enough price that even when i add the nearly $2k in repairs, it adds up to under the bluebook value.
So here is my question: Am I getting myself into a heap of trouble? Its a 6 cylinder, too, which seem to be getting a bad rap. The mechanic was saying the repairs in general were more expensive on the 6, though i am hoping that once the tune-up, belt and seals are fixed, it would be a fairly good running car and i'd get a lot of miles out of it. I guess what i am looking for is people who have the 6s and how their experiences have been?
Thanks!
